Cottage Garden
Built in the early 1900’s, this former summer cottage was purchased by its current owners in 2018.
The overall landscape plan was to have little or no lawn to care for. With potentially thousands of square feet to work with, for the creation of new garden beds, the task seemed daunting yet very exciting.

A plan was drawn for phase one: hardscape. 20 tons of stone dust and soil were brought in to Re sculpture and level the existing slope of the yard. A 100 foot long brick walk was installed to connect the front of the property to a garage located at the back of the lot. Two circular accent pads were included to break things up. To help with tiering and to add thermal mass for warming the soil, a large collection of field stone were added.
Inspired by an addiction following British Garden broadcasts, the Cottage Garden style was decided for the overall theme in the front gardens. Striving to achieve continuous color and seasonal appeal, perennial plants and shrubs were added, divided, relocated, and replaced as the canvas developed. In the spring of 2024 suddenly all seemed to come together in a burst of flourishing growth.

The beginning of phase two was based on adding some classic grid fencing for screening, dog containment, and a home for collections of various vines. Honeysuckle has proven to be a haven for hummingbirds and grape vines are producing decent amounts of fruit.

A themed garden featuring a mainly white toned scheme is alive with beautiful plantings. Tulips, daffodils, azalea, and white bleeding heart kick off the season. Variegated Hosta, Hydrangeas, and Phlox continue the tones into fall highlighted by an original Paper Birch.
